Eye Care FAQ’s in Grants Pass

A routine eye exam for self-pay patients is $159.

Contact lens exams range between $235 and $299, depending on your contact lens needs.

Vision plans usually cover one eye exam each year and typically have a copay. Most insurance companies do not contribute toward retina imaging, a 200-degree view of the back of the eyes. That cost is $39 out of pocket, in addition to any copay.

Retina imaging, known as Optomap or Optos imaging, allows for a fast, non-invasive 200-degree view of the retina in both color and auto-fluorescent photos. These photos become part of your permanent record, allow for a more thorough exam, and enable our doctors to make important comparisons of your eyes year to year.

It’s similar to a primary care physician performing annual bloodwork or a dentist taking x-rays. Many diseases are detected inside the eye before patients notice any change or loss of vision, and Optos images greatly aid in that early detection.

Our doctors are optometrists. They perform vision exams and detect eye diseases such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy. Our doctors also have a special interest in treating dry eye, myopia control, and low vision evaluations.

If a surgical intervention such as cataract surgery is needed, our doctors will aid in the referral process.

Low vision evaluations are intended for patients who have vision loss from diseases like macular degeneration or glaucoma and can no longer get improvement in their vision with glasses alone. Dr. Barrett Napier works with each patient to understand their visual needs and helps them select and use devices to perform specific tasks.

This is an appointment that is billable to your medical insurance. It’s dedicated time with Dr. April Napier to more thoroughly address dry eye or ocular surface issues.

Dr. April will review what treatments you have tried in the past and evaluate your history for contributing factors to dry eye disease. She will also perform specialized testing of the front of your eyes that assesses how long your tears last on the eye, the amount and quality of your tears, and images the meibomian glands, which produce an important part of the tear film.

She will review all of the information collected and work with you to create a treatment plan tailored to the cause of your condition, including which at-home treatments can be helpful and more advanced options such as medications and in-office treatments. Dr. April has many different tools in her dry eye toolbox to get your eyes healthy and feeling better.

Absolutely. You can pay directly with your health savings card, or request an itemized receipt for easy reimbursement. This applies to our dry eye treatments, including in-office options like OptiLight IPL.
